Ocean Explorer

Expedition Leader
Born and raised in Edinburgh, Dr. Kim Crosbie has worked for years in the polar regions, originally as a researcher at Scott Polar Research Institute, University of Cambridge. A renowned expedition leader and one of the few female members of the Antarctic Club, Dr. Crosbie has served as field advisor for a number of television programs, including A&E's "Shackleton."
"My love affair with cold coastlines began in childhood; some of my earliest memories are of being clad in Aran sweaters, shorts and welly-boots, blue knees knocking with the cold as I paddled around in rock pools on Scotland's west coast. When, years later, I went to camp on a small island in the Antarctic Peninsula to do research, studying the habits of 4,500 pairs of penguins, I set of once again armed with an Aran knit sweater, welly-boots and set of oil skins, only to find that my knees were still blue - and still knocking. Lorraine Betts changed all that. Taking pity on this ill-equipped waif she went out of her way to deliver a pair of "Activist" fleece pants to me that kept me warm and comfortable for the duration. My knees have now fully recovered and I have her experience and knowledge to thank for that. By the way, years later I still order the same pants from her and the accompanying top."
